As 3D visualization team, we have come across the inevitable moment when we need to pull something off for our team and clients. Some issues caused by us, some from our clients. We noticed from time to time that in our session with our clients, there will be some issue that can lead to low productive work or even worse by collapse the project. And here are the most dangerous thing to be done from both rendering team and client side.
1. Miscommunication and misunderstanding with the higher ups
The understanding of the project between project coordinator and his/her supervisor is crucial. They need to synchronize their point of view and work out the project content together before coming to 3D rendering service to save time and money. We’ve seen our client couldn’t make a clear statement between their teammate. And that can affect everything from teamwork to budget.
2. Late payment
Every business need money to operate their production. To pay on time is to show your respect toward your partners. No one want to work with people who slacking off all the time.
3. Repetition data editing
For you 3D renderers, you need to organize the data to make your client easy to access and work with by create data checklist. In each data edition session, professional rendering team will provide you the checklist of all data editing therefore you can check which part of your project was edited and that can deliver the project on time. Fail to achieve this may cause a bothersome problem of data editing, and that can lead to off track schedule.
4. Delay of data transmission
Delivering the project on time is the professional quality that need to acquire in every occupations. Both of client and render team need to follow up their schedule especially the task that need to coordinate between both sides, data transmission. Do not hesitate to ask for the information you need, keep in mind that the time is flowing and the money is wasting. However, there will always sometime that inevitable problems may occur, many experienced rendering studio can buffer the time for some specific tasks to create another coming up task to solve the problem. You may find this uncomfortable at first, but don’t worry, this can be learnt over time.
In a whole design process from concept development to visualization and construction, 3D rendering process is one of the most enjoyable activity; to bring one of your idea to life via 3D rendering and post production process can give you a sense of completeness in your work and life.
But where do we start? What if we don’t have the technical files to work with, how can we process toward the end of the project? In that point, need not to worry, 3D rendering image can be acquired in many ways. We’ve come across many clients from the old-fashioned one who value the analog things and traditional process to this generation like-mind clients. And there is no limitation whether your start up material is as we’ll break it down for you.
1. No soft files?
Like how we record the sound of music to vinyl record and from vinyl record to the digital MP3, 3D making can start from a scrap of paper on your dining table, capture with camera and send it to render team. Your drawing should contain rough dimensions of all parts. Remember that the most traditional way always need the most dedication and willpower to work with, so be vigilant in detail as much as possible. The professional 3D visualizer can at least work with this kind of reference from your drawing.
2. Autocad file
Autocad file is considered as the general standard file. It is flexible and most compatible to most of CAD program. This soft file type can save a lot of time if be done correctly from the one who creates it. If the created file contain the most realistic information such as dimensions in each detail parts, 3D visualizer will be able to make the exact 3D image from it.
3. Revit file
Revit file is the most advanced architecture CAD file that contain a lot of information that useful in making 3D image. In short, it is available for us to check the details of 2D drawing and 3D parts simultaneously and save a lot of time to process the visual model in CAD program.
4. Sketch up file
Sketchup is the file which contain the roughest information to work with. It is lack of details and proper setup that is caused by the program itself, therefore, it is necessary that the scale and unit of the drawing need to adjust properly in another CAD program. Consider it as the “hand drawing file from your PC” in this case. But do not worry. Although this type of file is hard to work with due to the unclear dimension and scale to 3D visualizer, but it is better than nothing in this case. The professional 3D visualizers should be capable of anything that contain the essential information of your project.
At the first glance of the finished image, some of you may curious if it is hard to obtain such a realistic work. Some may feel it is just a picture that you can press the shutter on your camera to get it. Well, it is not easy like that. Every piece of works have their own story in which the client and the render team need to collaborate to get the appropriate result. It can be complicated procedure more or less depends on how the teams cooperate. In the design field, the term “design development” is the essence of how the project progress. And we lot put most of our time in building up the pieces by “developing” the project with our clients from time to time. In this article, we will walk you through the standard procedure of our rendering process to give you the whole picture of how we work in the team
1. Data collection
Before anything else, we need to get a grip on what we are going to do with our client. We gather the information from the project. What are the needs? Any soft-files? The main concept? The main theme of the project? For more detail please look up the topic “Work with 3D visualizers: 5 things you need to prepare the project for rendering process.”
2. First draft, Second draft, Third draft
After we have obtained the data, we will start by making the first model refer to the client data. The first model will be the fast, rough model to let us sense the overall picture of what we are doing. Imagine like you are preparing the ingredients and try to sort the best way to deal with it. And then we hold the session with client for their feedback.
In the second draft, mostly we try to add some details in the base model and adjust the model simultaneously to get a good proportion and fine space. The colors and textures will be implement onto the model to get some idea what it is like in the real one. Let’s just say, we put all of the ingredients in to the cooking pan and try to add some sauces for the better taste.
At the last draft, we put all the feedback we get from first and the second session with the client to smooth things up all the lighting atmosphere, textures, the material specs, the site details will be put into 80% finished work. To get the sense of every parts when connect them together.
3. Feedback and comment
The feedback and comment session will be held between the developments of the project, between the 1st and the 2nd draft, or between the refinement and finalization. We highly value the session with our client due to any feedback from the client can be apply or consider to the project to get the better result. This is the process that we enjoy the most, to know what our client is thinking is the best way to deliver the fine work at the end of the project.
4. Refinement and Finalize
Once the final draft have been approved, the refinement phase will begin. In this phase we focus on the details and a little things that we’ve overlooked along the way and put things in place, for example, the intensity of the lighting, the reflection between parts, etc. These little things can make the overall image looks realistic and convincing. When the final image is complete and ready to launch, we will check all of the compatibilities in any form of medium where the image will be published by our client either websites or magazines to make sure that our final product stay clear from any errors.
These are the main processes that we practice in our routine. We want you to see these as we try to cook something for you that you have a chance to participate in our kitchen by tasting our menu and comment us.
